HC summons registrar of co-op societies

The Delhi High Court has summoned the Registrar of Co-operative Societies (RCS) to appear in person following a contempt petition filed against him by a group housing society.

In its petition, the society has alleged that the RCS has failed to comply with an order passed by the court regarding allotment of flats. Justice Shiv Narayan Dhingra in a recent order asked U K Wohra, RCS, to be present in the court on December 18 and explain why he should not be punished for allegedly not following its order related to the allotment of flats in the society of the petitioner by November 15 last year.

The order came following a petition filed by Asha Deep Group Housing Co-operative Society (Dwarka) alleging that the court on October 5 last year had passed an order in favour of the society and directed the RCS to complete the process for draw of lots and place before it a list of members for the allotment of flats by November 15, 2007.

However, RCS has delayed the matter and the draw of lots has not been held, even though the flats were due for allotment since 2004, the petitioner society stated before the court. About the dispute related to the housing scam, the society claimed that a Division Bench of the High Court has cleared the society for allotment of the flats after the CBI filed a report giving it a clean chit.
