Two bike-borne snatchers attack woman

A 30-year-old woman became the latest victim in Dwarka to be attacked by bike-borne snatchers.

The victim, Ishita Sengupta, was returning from her office in Jia Sarai to her residence in Dwarka sector 4. ‘‘I got off at the Dwarka-Matiala bus stop and was walking home around 8.10pm. I usually take a rickshaw, but on Wednesday, I chose to walk as I had some neighbours with me. As we neared the local convent school, two bikers came from behind and snatched my laptap. I raised an alarm, but since it was an open road, they managed to flee,’’ said Sengupta, a mother of a child.

What shocked the victim was the attitude of the police at the Dwarka police station. ‘‘The police refused to lodge a case at the first instance. When I persisted, they forced me to lodge a case under stealing instead of snatching. The police is trying to hush up crime figures but the common man is suffering,’’ claimed Ishita.

When contacted, the Dwarka police denied the claims. ‘‘We are looking into the circumstances,’’ came the standard reply
