Man wanted in Dwarka Carjacking Case Nabbed

The Special Operation Squad (SOS) of Delhi Police has nabbed an alleged carjacker active in Dwarka area for the past one year. Wanted for several murders and carjacking cases, Bachan Singh alias Behra, carried a reward of Rs 20,000.

 

The police said he was staying at Block-B, New Tihar Jail House Complex with his brother, who works as a sweeper in the jail. ‘‘A stolen Santro car and a sophisticated 7.65mm pistol with four live cartridges were recovered from his possession,’’ said Neeraj Thakur, additional commissioner of police (crime).

 

According to ACP Udaiveer Rathi and inspector Rajpal Dabbas, SOS received an information that Singh would be coming to Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology in Dwarka on Monday with his associates. ‘‘On the basis of this input, we laid a trap near NSIT gate and Singh was apprehended,’’ said Rathi. But two of his associates succeeded in escaping from the spot under the cover of darkness, said the police.

 

Sources said that sometimes back Singh murdered Sukhpal, a driver working with a car showroom in Samai Pur Badli, and looted a new Alto car. On November 11, one Vinay Natiyal was looted of his Chevrolet Optra car. At about 8pm, when Natiyal reached Sector-4 in Dwarka, Singh and his associates Leela, Guddu and Bittoo, tried to snatch his car. When Natiyal resisted, they shot at him.

 

Five days later, Singh, Leela and Guddu looted a Honda City car (HR-26 AW-6638) at gun-point near Indraprastha School in Sector-10. This incident was widely reported in the media and the gang abandoned the car in Nangloi two days later to avoid getting caught.

 

Singh, came to Delhi from his village in Bharatpur, Rajasthan in search of employment and started living with his brother. He started the illegal sale of liquor and kidnapped a girl from Gulabi Bagh in 2008. He served time behind bars for the crime before coming out on bail.
